Very good story! It's an edge of your seat thriller that continues the adventure of Danny Torrence--the son of Jack Torrence--from where 'The Shining' left off. Great suspense and nice ghost story too. I really liked how the story explores the bond between Danny and Abra's shining ability. If you're up for a thrilling, suspenseful story, this should be an awesome book to read.

It's far from King's best work. The whole story is fairly predictable. However, I do like how he takes the kid from the Shining and shows the impact that traumatizing event had on his life, and how he continues to use his powers now. Also, the little girl protagonist is pretty cool.

Another requested book I did not finish - I had not realized that this book was a sequel to The Shining. Because the first part of the book was about Dan Torrance and his alcoholism, I simply could not stomach it. I lost patience with Torrance & his problems and returned the book before anything happened. Meh.

As a lifelong fan of The Shining, I expected a lot from this book. I wanted a sequel that had the same theme or ''feel' as the first book. This book, however; ties in with another book series he released many years ago. If you do not like The Dark Tower, don't bother with this book. I hated that series and I hated this book. I forced myself to read twelve chapters. I really wanted to like this book but I just could not get into it.

An interesting King book that picks back up with Danny from The Shining. Very cool concept; seeing where he has gone in life and what has become of him. I found it to be an easy and quick read.

Dr. Sleep was a decent enough horror story once Danny (now Dan) Torrence of The Shining got his inner and outer demons under control. But getting there was a long, slow process and felt more like it was ghost written (ha-ha) by someone other than King. His thanks in the Author's Notes to son Owen for suggesting 'valuable changes' in that part of the story line strengthened my suspicions, but who knows? At any rate the second half was classic King but, as a whole, this book is not among his best.

A great book, and the narration (audiobook version) is excellent, in fact the best I have heard so far.

Was thrilled to find out what had happened to Danny and Wendy (Everything except for the "like father like son" part). Other then that I enjoyed the plot but like @Chiv80 said the book felt like it dragged on and on. The only thing i didn't like was the ending.

Had high hopes for this book. But, it dragged on and on...

never read the shining but saw the movie. I thought this was a very good book. I'd give it a 8/10, the characters and events flow so smoothly and everything comes together impecibally. Not really scary but more interesting and paranormal. definitely worth reading.
