Sam goes to the playground and finds no toys available to play with. He gets mad. His mad grows until he is madder than ever in his life. Suddenly a little creature begins jumping around scaring the children away. This little black furry ball is a Temper. Sam claims him as a pet. But the Temper is not a wonderful pet. He gets up to all sorts of mischief and Sam gets consequences. After a couple of days of this, Sam decides to subdue the Temper. He thinks of every trick he has been taught such as counting to ten. He wrestles with the Temper and wins.

The illustrations in this book are a little bit different and have a vintage feel to them with slightly more subdued color hues. They are fun to look at. Even though the Temper is portrayed as a very bad pet, he is not drawn in a scary way.

This book has a very good message about taking the blame for one's temper and how to control it. But this book was advertized for ages 3-7. The wording on each page is very lengthy and the topic is too mature and subtle for preschoolers. I think this book would be very appropriate for ages 6-8
