Despite Sarah Jessica Parker looking terribly anorexic and the script being quite predictable, the series is fairly entertaining with just enough humor to make you chuckle occasionally. It is definitely contemporary adult humor.
Don't expect a sitcom. This is a half-hour drama with a very small amount of humor and black comedy. I don't think I would have kept watching it if it were a regular network length of 20+ episodes per season or an hourlong show. It held my interest for the 10 half-hour episodes. Its '70s pop/rock soundtrack is one of the best things about it. This HBO series is for mature audiences only; it contains adult situations, sex and profanity.
Marriage at midlife. The choices you make. This is not Carrie Bradshaw if her life had gone another way. Very different woman. But SJP so nails it.
This would be a good program if the writers had enough intelligence to create characters who were able to speak without using at least two F-words in every sentence. I don't mind a few uses in situations of shock or surprise, but this is juvenile.
It is supposed to be a comedy.
