“Angel” is a spinoff show from the popular television series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. “Angel” is about the vampire Angel, Buffy Summers’ love interest from the beginning seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Angel is a vampire with a soul who feels as though he needs to redeem himself after the horrors he inflicted for two hundred years before regaining his soul. After leaving Sunnydale, Angel ends up in Los Angeles and begins ‘Angel Investigations’, a small private detective agency specializing in paranormal occurrences. With the help of a half demon named Doyle and Cordelia Chase (a sassy actress-to-be who also is originally from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’), Angel fights demons, vampires, and an evil law firm set on unleashing the apocalypse.
“Angel” is a wonderfully entertaining show. It spans five seasons, and is continued in a series of comic books. While some basic knowledge of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is needed to fully enjoy the show, “Angel” can be watched without watching all seven seasons of Buffy. The characters of “Angel” are all unique and likeable in their own ways, and none of them are ‘copy overs’ of each other. The storyline of the show is interesting and entertaining, and while some points tend to drag out, viewers will be mostly on the edge of their seats, waiting to see what happens. The setting of the show is clever, as it allows viewers to feel as though the events of the show have actually happened opposed to being fictional.
The author of this review definitely highly recommends “Angel”. It is a creative, fun, witty show that will keep viewers enthralled for its entire duration. “Angel” is suitable for ages twelve and up due to occasional sexual moments and somewhat scary characters/situations.
