The landmark book from New York Times-bestselling author Dr. Jason Fung, one of the world's leading experts on intermittent fasting for weight-loss and longevity, whose 5-step plan has helped thousands of people lose weight and achieve lasting health.

"Not only full of insights but also surprisingly funny. Read it to understand why the world became fat, how to reverse the epidemic--and how to stay thin yourself."
--Andreas Eenfeldt, MD, Founder of dietdoctor.com

Everything you believe about how to lose weight is wrong. Weight gain and obesity are driven by hormones--in everyone--and only by understanding the effects of insulin and insulin resistance can we achieve lasting weight loss.

In this highly readable and provocative book, Dr. Jason Fung sets out an original, robust theory of obesity that provides startling insights into proper nutrition. In addition to his five basic steps, a set of lifelong habits that will improve your health and control your insulin levels, Dr. Fung explains how to use intermittent fasting to break the cycle of insulin resistance and reach a healthy weight--for good.

As with all weight loss magic solutions... this one will almost certainly work, because whether or not it resets metabolism, even if calories aren't counted, the weekly intake is going to be less, significantly less if the recommendations on what to eat are followed. Like all the others, it will work as long as it's followed, and staying on this one forever will be challenging.

Dr. Fung is amazing and so smart! Everything he writes in his book makes perfect since in regards to nutrition. Some of the information in the book may be difficult for the lay person to understand. I am a Registered nurse so my advice for anyone non medical that is going to read the book is that there may be terminology you may have to look up or research to get the full concept and understanding of what DR. Fung is talking about.

Sounds like it makes a lot of sense, but I wonder, though, how sustainable this diet would be in the long term...and when one loses weight how does one maintain it. An age old problem.

I wish this book had been available in the early 1980s when my father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in his late 50s. The knowledge herein could have spared him much suffering at the hands of his doctors.

I enjoyed this book so much that I bought it. Dr. Fung breaks down information in a clear, concise matter. I found he did not talk "over my head" or was trying to sell me something. I read a lot of health and fitness book and I notice a common theme of half of the book is information and the other half contains diet and exercise plans. This book is chocked full of great, useful information from start to finish. I'm so happy that intermittent fasting is becoming known offline. I highly recommend this book if you want to understand the science behind weight gain and what you can do about it.

This is the most important book I have read in recent memory. If you are someone who has tried diets and not had lasting success this is the book you want to read. You will understand how the food pyramid was developed, why we have believed carbs are good and fats are bad for our health, why weight loss diets fail (pick a diet, any diet), and most of all what to do about it. You will understand what to do to change the outcome of your diet. I highly recommend this book.
