"In futuristic Montreal, two men are smitten with the same girl. Jacob is an older musician of significant renown; Arthur designs musical instruments to be manufactured by his father. The object of their desire, Avril, is a short-winded photographer short on inspiration. Through teleporation and a device for travelling into the unconscious, the amorous adventures of the time-unstuck trio bring them to Mars -- or to what they imagine Mars to be."--Container.

Wha was that??? Some pretty scenery though.
Based on an acclaimed graphic novel, Mars & Avril is set in Montreal of the future, at the dawn of the first human landing on Mars, and tells the story of a musician who becomes obsessed with his muse.
Visually the movie is Fantastic. Great costumes and the Hair styles were in a league of there own. For me the problem was with the story. Just way to surreal. Like the writer was on some kind of LSD trip, woke up and wrote the script. Just could not get into it. Fast forwarded most of it.
In my humble opinion this movie is not about futurists or science fiction. It's more a fantasy, an other view of actual realities. I like it the way I like paintings of Impressionists more than photos, realism paintings or paintings of mythical characters. I like it the way I like harmony based modern music more than melody based classical music.
It's definitely not Avatar, Star Wars or Star Trek. It's closer to Alice In Wonderland, at a lower budget!
