We liked it, very entertaining.

Rather unexpected way that the story unfolded. Did feel sorry for the countryman that had to show up in England with Abdul. Seems that both men relied on favour or not to stay in England.
Funny to see even in Victoria's time (she who led the massive cutlery for every food endeavour) that when she finished a course, it meant the end of the course for all the guests. Must have been a tremendous social and financial burden for guests to show up dressed to the nines and be early then to race to eat yet still keep up their part in the table conversations.
What a tedious society!

A sweet story of friendship and loneliness.

An enjoyable relaxing movie with beautiful scenery.

Overall enjoyable, although a bit depressing at points as it takes places at the end of Victoria's reign.

Delightful. I totally enjoyed this movie.

I could not handle how arogant, superior and rude British aristocrats were (and some still are). The movie itself was incredibly boring and could not attract me. Switched it off in its half. Cannot recommend it.

This movie is wonderful... and to think it was almost lost forever due to racial prejudices. Because Queen Victoria's family, after her death, burned, destroyed, or got rid of pretty much everything that showed her connection to Abdul, this story between Victoria and Abdul was not discovered for almost 100 years! Makes you wonder how much else we have lost to the throes of history because someone was trying to erase the past. Wonderful acting all around and good pacing. A must rent!

Abdul: The mango is OFF. Victoria: The mango is OFF!

Most controversial scene part 1 of 2:

Mother, we have to see you. Alone.
-I'm in the middle of my Urdu lesson.
Mother, we come with very important news of a highly personal matter.
-I've nothing to hide from Abdul.
Please, Your Majesty. Your Majesty... I'm afraid our news concerns the Munshi. We have proof beyond any doubt that Abdul Karim is a low-born impostor, Your Majesty.
-The Munshi is from a noble family and a long line of teachers.
No, I'm afraid he was a mere clerk in a common jail. My own son has sent word from India and has actually spoken to his immediate superior. His family are completely uneducated. His father is a lowly apothecary. // The Munshi never even went to school, Mother. The man's a complete fraud. And here he is, overlooking the boxes. // I'm afraid it's true, Your Majesty. Abdul and his father are completely common. We have prepared a dossier.

Most controversial scene part 2 of 2:

-You despicable toads! Racialists! Spying? Dossier? Picking on a poor defenseless Indian? Of course he doesn't have qualifications. They do things completely differently out there.
Don't you see, Mama? He's using his position for his own gain.
-And how does that make him any different from any of you? How dare you look down on Abdul? How dare you defame his poor father? Bertie, I'm ashamed that you're part of all this. Abdul is a loyal, wise, sympathetic human being, who has raised himself on his own merits. … It has become apparent that in order to get any respect from the Household, one needs to be formally recognized. In which case, Abdul. I intend to give you a knighthood in the next honors list.
Enough! This is absurd! We cannot protect you from this any further. The man is riddled with gonorrhea!
-Gonorrhea? SIR HENRY:
Yes. Your Majesty.
-Well, you are a doctor. Why don't you treat him? Now get out of my sight, all of you!
