Lovely story with a wonderful ending. It tells us about the meaning of family. And how friendship doesn’t always come the way we expect it. It tells us not to judge things by the looks. It tells us about how good hearted people are amazing idols. It also tells us not to give up. Even if you’re wishing for the same thing everyday from forth grade, it will come true someday.

Wonderful and genuine story for middle grade readers and solid read-aloud choice. Charlie's parents can no longer care for her so she moves to the country to live with her aunt and uncle. She is dealing with loss, anger, and has built a tough shell around herself. You will cheer for Charlie as she struggles to fit in, to catch that stray dog and to get the wish she has been hoping for all along.

Cute read with a stellar supporting cast. Charlie comes to live with her aunt and uncle "temporarily". Finds a dog and befriends him. A boy at school with a limp, befriends her. The little boy Howard is a calm balance to her feisty nature. Charlie tends to say the wrong thing alot of times. Therefore I really loved how everyone gave her chances to make her words forgiven. Much of the time there are thoughts swirrling around that you don't get to verbalize and Charlie demonstrated that very well. She's a sassy girl yet desires to be liked. The way everyone just accepted her was so loving and a nice change from the bully books. I feel books should let you escape, not relive your bad days at school. I also think the theme of caring will appeal to young people who yearn to be accepted. There are some humerous pieces but since Charlie is doing the inner monolgue, it's more serious. Not overly sweet but there are definitely some moments to make you tear up. In the end its all about what makes a true "family".
