This movie should be known as a good cure for insomnia.

Couldn't get through it...I found it quite boring .... didn't see where it was going to get any better when I was half way through the movie...

The most obvious way to think of this is as an opportunity for a meditative experience. We will be focusing eventually on the eldest of four young boys, Burmese monks, as he assumes responsibility as leader after their teacher has been called away. The contexts include the temple, the garb, Buddhist theology (so to speak) and practices. The background includes the natural world, and the invading reality of war. There is some repetition, clearly intentional. The creator is to some degree an outsider; perhaps that is beneficial in offering us a pathway to understanding. I sensed the timelessness of the struggle. Maybe there is a connection to the Christian notion of being in the world but not of it.

This film is mesmerizing. The ending is a little weird, but it is definitely worth watching. The scenery is beautiful and it is a nice story too.
