Disappearances: During the great Depression, a former bootlegger, Quebec Bill, rounds up his brother-in-law, his hired man and his 15 year-old son, Wild Bill, and sets out from rural Vermont to Canada to steal whiskey. The deadly companions: After the Civil War, a Union Army veteran sets out to track down the rebel soldier who tried to scalp him. The young land: Hatfield Carnes is awaiting a trial for the slaying of a Mexican man in 1840s California. Jory: When his father is killed, fifteen-year-old Jory is left orphaned in the harsh wilderness of the Wild West. Leaving his childhood behind, Jory joins a horse drive and learns how to take care of himself with the help of some likable cowboys.
