An addictive, gossip-filled mystery set on the island of Nantucket. On the morning of Celeste and Benji's big day, the maid of honor is found floating in the bay near the wedding compound and home of the groom's family. In less than 24 hours, the authorities have made their ruling on the incident. You, the reader, will have spent 400+ pages watching the events of that day unfold with strategically placed flashbacks showing you how the characters got to where they are now. Could not put it down. Now I have to return to real life. Thanks for the engrossing and entertaining ride, Elin!

P.S. As the wife of a law enforcement officer, I had to to deduct a star. Getting all that investigating done in one day is a stretch for me to believe, but it makes for a great novel.

A frivolous quick read. The only problem I had was with the love at first sight scenario. Seemed a little random. And the ending was pretty meh too. Seemed like the author couldn't tie up the loose ends and just went with the ending that needed the least amount of work.

I loved it! Intriguing, quick read, and great book to savor these last days of summer in Boston. Couldn't put it down over Labor Day weekend. One of her best books, and I have read all but one. Enjoy!

Literature it is not; good summer read it is. Elin Hilderband has written the perfect light novel in "A Perfect Couple." Karen and Bruce Otis are the perfect couple, their daughter Celeste is wondering whether she and her fiancee Benji will make the perfect couple and Benji's parents and brother certainly don't seem to be perfect couples. Benji and Celeste are to be married in Benji's parents' Nantucket home but on the morning of the wedding a body is discovered on their beach. Everyone in the wedding party seems to have a motive to murder Merritt the Maid of Honor, who is killed and everyone appears to have had the opportunity too. So who did it? I wish there'd been a butler 'cos then I could have said the butler did it:-) It's worth a quick read to see if the mystery can be solved.

I gave this book "a chance" up to 75 pgs...and at almost 500 pgs, I decided it was neither rich enough of a plot to to hold my interest, nor does the actual writing inspire me to read on...
There are so many fabulous novels to be read...and many authors of fantastic 'mysteries'.....
I enjoy reading novels of main characters as women sleuth detective investigators.
I've read several other Hilderbrand novels...so ...

When I began 'The Perfect Couple' I thought it a good summer mystery. As I continued to read 'The Perfect Couple' I began to believe I fell deep down the rabbit hole of a soap opera. Sadly, yet humorously, 'The Perfect Couple' is a beach-read word salad of every ridiculous, cheap literary trope. Oh yes, 'The Perfect Couple' has them all . . .
* Peasant girl with a prince
* Snobbish mother, cheating father
* Charmingly, predictably, one dashing Brit and another perpetually drunk, predatory Brit
* Pregnant mistress
* Gay crush
* 'Love at first sight' with best friend of the prince
* Dying mother
* Hard working, besieged small town sheriff
* Runaway bride
* Ne'er-do-well son with wife with many miscarriages now pregnant & constantly sick
* Orphaned teens of sailing accident parents
. . . All on a beautiful island with mouth-watering (and wildly expensive) food and magnificent views from every fabulously wealthy window, door and deck.

I had to laugh when three quarters through the book the author practically acknowledges this:

"Disgust courses through Greer's veins. She is hardly naive; she has written scenarios like this and more so. There wasn't one original thing about it - a charming, rich, powerful older man with an indifferent wife seduced or was seduced by a young, beautiful, silly girl. It practically described the history of the entire world - from Henry VIII with Anne Boleyn to an American president with his impressionable intern."

There is one absolutely charming bit in 'The Perfect Couple' as the bride calls her parents, whose given names are Karen and Bruce, "Betty" and "Mac" - for Betty Crocker and MacGyver. It's the most (maybe the only) endearing part of the story.

I almost believe the author purposely included all these silly plots and sub-plots as a thumb in the eye of every predictable romance novel being written today. If she did, I'd give 'The Perfect Couple' at least 4 stars for making me laugh with its ridiculousness. Since I don't know her intent, 3 stars, mid C.

The flip-flopping between characters and time was annoying until Elin Hilderbrand dropped her first bombshell. I couldn't put it down as the mystery unfolded.

I noticed that Chip Cunningham wasn't listed in her acknowledgements. While I couldn't find anything in my Google search about a divorce, it makes me wonder whether she's no longer part of a "perfect couple."

The author reports there is an error on page 461. The chapter should read July 7 rather than July 8.

As usual Ms Hilderbrand has delivered a wonderful book taking place on Nantucket. It's a romance with a twist of mystery in it and I absolute loved it. I think it was probably her best yet. Everytime I finish one of her books I can hardly wait for the next one to come out.
