Doug Brock hasn't had it easy since his getting shot in the line of duty as a New Jersey state police officer. Between the amnesia and having to solve two murder cases, it hasn't been the most restful recovery. Now, the cold case department is checking evidence from a murder case Doug was investigating before the accident, but the DNA points to a man Doug eliminated as a suspect... and he remembers none of it. Doug begins to reinvestigate what turns out to be a series of unsolved killings and must retrace his steps to discover why he would have let the suspect go free. What he uncovers may be more dangerous than any case he's faced yet. With Black and Blue, nationally bestselling author David Rosenfelt continues his thrilling new series featuring Doug Brock.

Absolutely love the books by David Rosenfelt. The mystery is always on the lighter side and he injects humour throughout. Would recommend for a quick, easy read.

I enjoyed 'Black and Blue'. In the beginning I thought Doug sounded a bit too much like Andy Carpenter, Rosenfelt's other beloved character, but that was tempered as the story proceeded.

The plot itself had some great twists and turns, but, unusually for me with one of Rosenfelt's novels, I had strong suspicions about the parts characters actually played.

The dialog is fun, much in keeping with the Andy Carpenter vein of adding some lightness in the midst of serious criminal activity, Doug's ongoing narrative seems to be allowing him to move off of the consequences of his prior accident and develop on his own, and the procedurals were interesting.
