Downton Abbey

The beloved characters of Downton Abbey take to the big screen, and it turns out that they've got a major event to prepare for. After all, it's not every day that royalty makes an appearance. Of course, it's not long before tensions are running high. The property isn't even close to ready when it becomes clear that Carson the butler will need to come out of retirement to help run this sinking ship before it's too late.

Shame on Julian fellows. This movie was writen by a two-year old. Was an avid fan of the series. But this movie was rediculous. Six subplots & he tries to solve them in the last ten minutes of the movie. And the answer for the dowager---how sad. Don't waste your time

I loved the series and was totally disappointed with this movie. The lighting was just awful and the story was not up to the standard of the series.

Followers of DA will know that screenwriter Julian Fellowes ran out of creative steam half way through the series. This forelock-tugging, retro-porn extravaganza shows he has not recovered. His story line throws many balls into the air, each one sillier and more predictable than the next. Isobel and the dowager countess are in form as they trade acerbic barbs, but too much of the dialogue is cloying and, towards the end, positively cringe-inducing. The only nice touch is the budding romance between Tom Branson, that poor excuse for an Irishman, and a sweet Tuppence Middleton, whose impending good fortune will, we are to hope, finally bring Tom his own broad acres. Watch it for the grand old crew and the clothing, but that's all you are going to get. And if you are a monarchist, watch out. These two hours of bowing and scraping will turn you into a confirmed republican.

Revisiting Downton Abbey and its many residents (upper and lower stairs), felt like putting on a cozy pair of slippers - all of the good feels came back from the original series.

While I would recommend viewing (or skimming) the original series first, the film is constructed in such a way that a novice viewer could still enjoy the story and pacing,

The Dowager Countess would not be amused. Characters appear and disappear at random and without benefit of a believable plot. Those who want a glimpse of the elegance of Highclere Castle and period costumes will be rewarded with precisely that, and no more. A disappointing sequel to an interesting, though uneven series.

This is like a cheap version of the excellent series. Condensing a long beautiful series into a choppy movie with splicing and dicing just didn't cut it. Still not too bad, but a pale comparison to the series. A for effort, C or D for results.

An absolute mess, from the lighting (one light and only one light for the interior shots), to the writing (anyone for sub-sub-sub plots), to the acting and direction. If they wanted to kill off the series then they did a fine job. If you liked the series do yourself a favor and don't watch this.

I found the movie boring, just like the last two seasons of the series. The writers seemed to have run out of ideas for a story line. Good thing we got to watch the movie for free.

VERY GOOD 2019 film sequel to fab television series which ran from 2010-2015. I did enjoy the film, but wish I had better memory recollection of all the interesting characters from the earlier TV days.
It was VERY enjoyable to see that fab building and all the settings, again - along with the terrific costumery, etc.

Middle of a road movie for me. While the visuals and audio are on par and the writing is serviceable I think the amount of fan service and related story arcs rather drag the movie down while reminding the viewer that a series doesn't translate that well to a one time movie.
