"Animal Farm" is the most famous by far of all twentieth-century political allegories. Its account of a group of barnyard animals who revolt against their vicious human master, only to submit to a tyranny erected by their own kind, can fairly be said to have become a universal drama. Orwell is one of the very few modern satirists comparable to Jonathan Swift in power, artistry, and moral authority; in animal farm his spare prose and the logic of his dark comedy brilliantly highlight his stark message. Taking as his starting point the betrayed promise of the Russian Revolution, Orwell lays out a vision that, in its bitter wisdom, gives us the clearest understanding we possess of the possible consequences of our social and political acts.

Often banned in High Schools throughout the world. Animal Farm has also been banned due to its anti-Stalinist and totalitarianistic views that could inspire new communist rebellions

As someone who enjoys history, this book is a clever and fun representation of the Soviet Union. The book isn't that subtle about it either as Orwell makes it clear what each character and animal represents in the real world. I had to read this book in the 10th grade and it still holds up as one of my favorite books with it's themes still being prevalent in modern politics.

"A survey of censorship challenges in the schools, conducted in DeKalb County for the period of 1979 to 1982, revealed that the novel had been objected to for its political theories." from American Library Association

It is one of the best shorts I've ever read. It had been so long that I had forgotten that it was only 90 pages in length. Everyone that reads this can see the link in what is still happening to day even though the USSR and Stalin are long dead. It's happening again right here inj the good old USA.

Orwell, a democratic socialist, wrote this book to warn others about the dangers of totalitarianism, regardless of the economic system. A brilliant satire on the Soviet Union, with the power of Napoleon (Stalin) able to change the truth and demean his opponent, Snowball (Trotsky). I was hoping for a more satisfying ending, but the uncomfortable ending really emphasizes how a revolution can lose its original vision when the power falls into the hands of the corrupt.

Orwell's humorous short novel is a timeless allegory of power and corruption. It is as relevant today as when it was written and merits reading every few years lest we forget the risks we run from any kind of government. After reading you may not think it quite so amusing.

I first read this book more than 20 years ago while I was still in China. I could relate every character in the book to what's happening in Communist China. Communism is a disaster to human being, not only to Russia, but to every single country where Communism ruled. Really hope people understand what's really going on in China in the disguise of a "miracle" economy.

I read this for the "A Book With Non-human Characters" part of my 2018 reading challenge. I really enjoyed it, it's a great story with or without making the political comparisons.

Great piece of satire on the Russian Revolution - thoroughly enjoyed it.

Animal Farm is a very different approach from 1984. Somewhat of a fusion between the rise of Hitler and Stalin (or if you want to keep it all within the Bolsheviks, between Trotsky and Stalin,) it chronicles how revolutions usually free the oppressed only to have the new leadership create its own form of oppression. A good read, although nowhere near the level of sophistication and importance of Orwell's epic masterpiece.

My dad told me to read Animal Farm a long time ago and I finally decided to read it this Summer. I though the book was just going to be about animals on a farm but it was really different. I wish the book was longer because I loved it so much and it is definitely on my list of favourites books now. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

Animal Farm is about animals...animals who learn and over throw the humans that run the farm and keep them away. However, the learned animals have difficulties and also learn being human isn't necessarily a bad thing. What starts out as equality and common ground and rules to live by changes over the course of time into something no one could foresee.

Animals at a farm join together to overthrow what they feel is evil...Man. They successfully lead a rebellion against Man and take control of the farm. They are leading a happy life without Man at the farm. But, after kicking out Snowball, the pigs are corrupting what the animals wrote out as the Seven Commandments...Is it possible that animals can be evil too?
A prime example of how rebellions can often go wrong, and George Orwell is adding on to what happened with the Russian Revolution.

When I read through this book, I REALLY thought that Animal Farm was a tale about animals. But afterwards, I searched up this book and read that it was actually about Communism. The book begins with the animals rebelling to Men. They won the rebellion, kicked Men out, and started taking over their own farm. Later on, Snowball, a pig, organized the farm and declaimed himself as leader. The animals were happy they finally can work for just themselves. But meanwhile, Napoleon, another pig, started stirring things up into tyranny. He trained puppies that nearly killed Snowball, and he became the dictator. Every animal had to agree with Napoleon, or else they would be killed. At last, Animal Farm became a dictatorship of pigs, and that ends the story. I would say this book is a tough read and recommend this book to deeper readers. The author's style of language was often hilarious, but this book as a whole fetches greater interpretation of the message conveyed. One last note, this book isn't really about animals...
