My favorite of the "Unplugged" series (was it really 100% completely-and-totally neccessary to do the Korn one??? Hahaha), because so many of Nirvana's songs translated well to acoustic.
My favorite part about this album is the blissfully morose and melancholy atmosphere, created mainly by Cobain's heroin-suffocated voice. It's so rare in art to have a representation of such dark depression that translates so beautifully. It makes me wonder just how great a Type O Negative MTV Unplugged set could've been, but they never would have agreed to that.
This one gives me chills when Kurt hits that huge note during his solo in THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD. it has been so since the first time I heard this cd. I also appreciate the way he name checks the writer of the song, as the applause fades. This is the real farewell from Kurt, not the rambling 'asshole' note Courtney read.
Incredible live acoustic performance - the only episode of Unplugged to be filmed in a single take.
While most focus on the band's legendary cover of Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World," there are numerous amazing tracks. My favorites include incredible live-string accompanied arrangements of "Dumb" and "All Apologies" as well as two lesser known covers: "Lake of Fire" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night."
Kurt has been a huge influence on me as a muscian for a long while .this is one of the best live shows by a band ever done and the versions of the Nirvana songs on Mtv unplugged are better than the orginals from Nevermind and In Utero.Kurt sang in this show instead of screaming which showed his voice more and how wonderful the melodies are without the loud guitars on record. highlights for me are Penny royal tea Come As You Are Dumb Where Did You Sleep Last Night About A Girl Oh Me and On A Plain a sad record and very haunting since we know what happened a few months later.Kurt could of written some more great songs like these but at least we have the music forever!
The rendition of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" is one of the best live rock recordings. Ever.
Just an overall great performance. The highlights for me were the covers especially the Leadbelly cover. Kurt's voice never sounded so good!
Everything about this is put together so well.
