Irish sword master Caid Roe O'Neill is walking home at dawn, taking his usual route through the cemetery. Recently he has gotten into the habit of walking by the tomb of Eugene Moisant, a man he killed in a duel. This morning he discovers Lisette Moisant, Eugene's young widow, lying on the tomb, apparently dead. Believing she intended to commit suicide, Caid takes her to the home of a friend. Lisette recovers and tells Caid that her father-in-law drugged her in an attempt to have her declared insane in order to get control of her fortune. Caid feels responsible for her and offers her his protection. As they fight against her father-in-law's evil plans to control her fortune, they fall deeply in love.
