Late, Late at Night
A Memoir
Book - 2010
In the 1980s, singer-songwriter and actor Rick Springfield seemed to have it all: a megahit single in “Jessie’s Girl,” sold-out concert tours, follow-up hits that sold more than 17 million albums and became the pop soundtrack for an entire generation, and 12 million daily viewers who avidly tuned in to General Hospital to swoon over his portrayal of the handsomeDr. Noah Drake. Yet lurking behind hissuccess as a pop star and soap opera heartthroband his unstoppable drive was a moody, somber, and dark soul, one filled with depression and insecurity.
In Late, Late at Night , the memoir his millions of fans have been waiting for, Rick takes readers inside the highs and lows of his extraordinary life. By turns winningly funny and heartbreakingly sad, every page resonates with Rick’s witty, wry, self-deprecating, brutally honest voice. On one level, he reveals the inside story of his ride to the top of the entertainment world. On a second, deeper level, he recounts with unsparing candor the forces that have driven his life, including his longtime battle with depression and thoughts of suicide, the shattering death of his father, and his decision to drop out at the absolute peak of fame. Having finally found a more stable equilibrium, Rick’s story is ultimately a positive one, deeply informed by his passion for creative expression through his music, a deep love of his wife of twenty-six years and their two sons, and his life-long quest for spiritual peace.

Add a CommentI didn't grow up with Rick Springfield, but I am an 80's girl at heart, so I thought this book would be interesting to read. All I have to say is Wow! The amount of pain and hardship that he's been through throughout his entire life is baffling. Nobody would've ever known from the way he looked on stage and in the videos. But the way he tells it is so great, the words and the voice are definitely his own, and it didn't, even once, get boring. The ending definitely made me cry. Highly recommended!
What can I say???? My teenage heart has been broken! It really is (for him) sex, drugs & rock'n'roll. Brutally honest, he writes about his REPEATED infidelities, his battle with depression, and addictions. I admire his honesty but prefer to think of him as the poster boy with the clean-cut image! I too still love Rick!!!!
The language was unbelievable. He didn't have to be so vulgar to try to make a point!
Excellent book! Bonus pictures are nice too.
I absolutely loved this book, couldn't put it down! It was a bit shocking, but a very honest account of Rick's life. Barbara is a very patient, forgiving woman, I must say....and after learning all this, I still love Rick Springfield
