Great read, jumping back to the past of Davenport, the cop, but soon-to-be detective. Lucas is the honest cop, full of honor and integrity we wished we'd meet, not all the corrupt and lazy cops we have met, or read about in the news on a daily basis. (In real life there are honest cops, but they don't last long, e.g., Paul Schraga of LA's Rampart precinct, in the aftermath of the Sen. Bobby Kennedy assassination.)

I think John Stanford is an amazing author. Love the Lucas Davenport series, this one is a real page turner!
"There’s a simple reason why all of John Sandford’s Lucas Davenport crime novels hit the best-seller list: They’re good. That’s because Sandford creates in Davenport a plausible, if slightly super-human, detective, the supporting cast of cronies and villains is well fleshed-out and the stories are often first-rate. This time, we venture into Davenport’s past as evidence of an old crime that occurred while he was a young cop, and that haunts him still, is found at a construction site. A homeless man was accused of killing two young girls. Davenport has always doubted his guilt, and new evidence not only bears him out, but indicates not only that the killer is still at large, but that these were not his only victims."

This series is about as close to a sure thing as you can get.
When a pair of bodies are accidently exhumed, a case from the distant past comes back to haunt Lucas, one that he always felt guilty about. Through flashbacks, we get to see how he first hooked up with many of detectives that have become regulars in this series. But one of them won't survive re-opening the investigation.
Even though he's pushing 50 (and expecting a new baby), we get to see vintage Davenport....driven, determined & thoroughly ticked off as he attempts to avenge the murder of his friend & colleague.

Add a Commenti highly recommend this series. It is beautifully written and will keep you wanting to read more.
Lucas Davenport #21 takes Davenport into the cold case files when the bodies of two girls who went missing in the 1980s show up in a demolished house.
Another good read by John Sandford. Working my way through his list of novels.
Nothing to write home about! It is an OK book.
Lucas Davenport is the man!
