The title Drama can refer either to the fact that the junior high characters in this book are in their school drama club, or to the fact that they experience a lot of relationship drama. Callie, the main character, develops crushes at the drop of a hat, and is therefore often disappointed. The story feels true to junior high life--complicated, yet full of exuberance. The fun, colorful illustrations reflect this exuberant spirit. Author Raina Telgemeier drew on many of her own teenage experiences when she wrote this story, as she explains in a note at the back of the book. A third (and perhaps unintentional) meaning for the title could be that there is a lot of drama surrounding this book. Many people have tried to ban it, because it includes a few gay characters. Banned Book Week would be a good time to read this book...but it's such a fun, quick read, that any time would be a good time to read it, actually.
