Quotation

After fellow safari guest Cyrus Reed meets Mrs. Pollifax he invites her to lunch in the restaurant of the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka: "Then we'll order. I can recommend the chicken because I've had it every day since my arrival. Tirelessly, one might say." (p. 42) This is humorous for anyone familiar with Zambia in the 70s when there were "shortages" of many staple foods such as beef, pork and fish. The waiter would hand the menu with a long list of items ... but the guest would quickly find that only chicken was available!
