As usual with Box's Joe Pickett series, "Endangered" is a very good read and captures well the Wyoming setting. However, in this book, as in other Joe Pickett novels of recent vintage, the background anti-federal-government stuff is somewhat over the top and offensive. Governor Rulon's rant about the federal endangered-species and coal-/oil-extraction policies is way too over the top, and it's feeling as if Box is using his novels as a soapbox to promote a (destructive) interior-western view of things without giving due credit to the opposing viewpoint. If the next novel is as polemical as this one, I'm giving up on him.
