A wonderful debut! Rachelle Dekker shows her prowess in the writing field as she crafts a gorgeous story about finding your true self and your worth, not from how you are defined by society or your family or even yourself, but how your Father sees you. The beauty in the lesson here-discovering who you really are and that you are valued-is portrayed powerfully and masterfully here. I felt with Carrington and experienced alongside her the amazing power and love of Aaron's words, the words that told her who she really was in her Father's eyes, the One who made her and chose her and called her His. Simply gorgeous, emotional, well-done. The plot itself was interesting. Although at first I found the story only intriguing and not very "pulling", I was soon immersed in this dystopian world, gobbling everything up, especially near the end. The main characters-specifically Carrington, Remko, and Isaac, who all get POVs-each brought something different to the story, giving the novel depth and substance. I liked where Rachelle went with the villain, and the journey throughout the story was well-crafted and well-written. All in all, a great book. The only things that I have to pick with the author was the fact that the romantic subplot, though cute, felt a bit one-dimensional and cliche. Also, at the end of the book, nothing is really discussed about the fate of Carrington's bff, which seems like a loose end/plot hole the author never really noticed. However, besides these, I'd say the book was without too many inconsistencies or hiccups. Apparently this is a series(!!), so I'll definitely be on the lookout for the next book, The Calling (which is coming out next year, I believe). And I'll be looking forward to more books by Rachelle Dekker. :)
