Essays written about the forgotten (or unknown) parts of America which were basically ignored or manipulated in the 2016 election. The essays disclose huge pockets of high unemployment, part-time unemployment, low salaries, no salaries, temporary employment, prohibitive college tuition, etc. One salient fact disclosed - American inequality has risen dramatically since the end of WWII such that the top 1% now own 40% of the nation's wealth while the bottom 80% own only 7% of the nation's wealth. Not disclosed in the essays is that since Reagan's election, Reagan, G. W. Bush, and Trump have all dramatically reduced taxes for the wealthy, actions that helped increase the top 1%'s share of the wealth from 22% to that 40%. And each time, after the tax cuts were made, the Republicans claimed they had to cut safety net programs and funding for education, etc. to reduce the deficit.
