I loved this novel because it combined science, an historical event, telportation, and page turning action. Billionare enteuprer and scientist Robert Donniger heads a super secret multi-national corporation that claims to be a research center but in fact very few know its true mission. Through Quantum technology his team of scientists have developed a method to transport humans into the past to learn first hand what really happened and visually see the architecture that they are working to rebuild. A team of four historians accompanied by two guides travel back to France in 1839 in order to rescue and return a stranded professor. Unfortunately, they arrive during an invasion of the towns of Castelgard by a brigade of two thousand renegade knights. They no sooner step out of their time travel machine until a marauding force kills one of the guides and severely wounds the other. He manages to escape into the machine but dies before returning to the present. At this point the four historians are on their own. Their situation is dire when discovered the ceramic disk that has the key to their return is destroyed in the conflict. From then on it is one hair raising event after another. Only one member of the team can speak the ancient language and they are faced with dangerous political situation they do not understand. It is only due to the advanced technology they came equiped that they were able to undersand their language and able to communicate with each other. Action packed novel with a message and thoughtful insights.
