Can’t believe I haven’t watched this movie until now; the characters all tie together perfectly, from the rivalry between Cyclops and Wolverine to Mystique absolutely adoring Magneto. After a near lifetime of Wolverine running and hiding, constantly on the move, it’s not much of a surprise when he takes a liking to the young Rogue, a mutant, much like him, trying to figure out her life. The two find each other suddenly tossed into a whole new world, saving each other over and over again, brought to a school specially designed for mutants, run by Professor Xavier after they were attacked by Sabretooth. Rogue, with a power unlike any other, is being sought out by Magneto, to power a machine to change human’s views on mutants. Storm, Cyclops, Wolverine, and their group must work together to stop Magneto and keep Rogue safe, but it’s a hard thing to do when you’re being tossed around by Sabretooth and tricked by the alluring Mystique every time you turn around. Not to mention getting caught in the middle of Storm’s storm, overestimating your telepathic abilities, not double-checking your psychic machines, having lasers constantly shooting out of your eyes, trying to take care of a hormonal teenage girl, getting choked, getting stabbed, and getting bound to the wall. The backstory and general links between Magneto and Prof. Xavier is a bit bland, along with the story of the Wolverine. One minute Prof. Xavier and Magneto are calmly having a discussion together, the next they’re trying to kill each other, and then they’re back to their quiet conversations.
