I haven't read the book, so I have nothing really to compare it to. I do think this has some flaws, though: 1. I thought that the scene depicting Hannah's suicide was unnecessarily graphic. I've seen suicide shown in other shows and movies, and it was done a lot more sensitively. (The movie The Skeleton Twins, for instance - when Bill Hader's character attempts suicide the same way, it was a lot less graphic.) 2. I'm pretty sure Clay's mother would have to recuse herself from the civil suit, because her son was a student at the school. 3. The guidance counselor would have had pamphlets to give to Hannah regarding what she discussed with him. (I won't say what she told him; I don't want to spoiler.) He also would be a mandatory reporter of crimes. There are some important topics that this series brings up, such as sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence, and the disturbing trend of spreading compromising photos among high school circles. But I think some things could have been handled better and, in some cases, more accurately.
