The Third Policeman is strange and compelling. While I have listened to this audiobook three different times, the first time through was the most magical because I didn't know what was coming next nor what some scenes actually meant in the context of the story as a whole. Particularly as an audiobook, I find this strange adventure worth the ride. O'Brien places some demands on the reader / audience. She must hold details / events / pieces of information in the air like juggled puzzle pieces until it all comes together at the end. Finally, for best results, try to avoid any spoiler reviews before your initial reading or hearing. It's told in first person, and the first fact one discovers is that the narrator has murdered someone. As for the rest, just experience and see. One can only read it for the first time once.
