Naked Lunch

[the Restored Text]

Whoa---heavy stuff!!! I'm 57, a product of the late 60's, originally out of L.A., and I thought I had a handle on what was going on "back then"....but this truly blew me away. Obviously, Burroughs influenced the writers of his era (check out the involvement of Ginsberg, Kerouac and others), but then you begin to understand the subtle intellectualism of the inanity of Firesign Theater's work; not totally unlike the somewhat contradictory pairing of Monty Python's inane silliness and Cambridge/Oxford intellectualism. For sure, no "plot" in the purely linear sense of the word; but if you're willing to let go of external structure, let yourself slide into the whole stream of relative reference frames---this work will take you there. Did I "enjoy" it, in the entertainment sense of the word? Not really---it ain't Louis Lamour or Tom Clancey. But do I remember it?---no doubt about it!!
